You must’ve had all types of traditional South Indian chutneys, but we are sure you must not have had Beetroot Chutney with your South Indian cuisines. To take your taste buds into heaven, you need to try this healthy accompaniment. Beetroots are said to have numerous health benefits.
It is full of nutrients and low in calories. It is a great option for health-conscious people. Beetroot also has numerous skin healing properties. Not just South Indian delicacies, this accompaniment can go well with anything on the other side. Be it sandwiches, fritters, as a spread or a dip, the list does not come to an end.

Ingredients

· Oil- 3 tsp
· Urad dal- tbsp.
· Chana dal- 1 tbsp
· Cumin seeds- ½ tsp
· Dried red chilli- 3
· Ginger- 1 inch
· Beetroot- 1.5 cups (chopped)
· Salt- ½ tsp
· Water- ¼th cup
· Coconut- 1 cup (grated)
· Tamarind- 1 small piece

 

STEP-BY-STEP PROCESS

· Heat oil in a pan and add urad dal, chana dal, dried red chilli and cumin seeds.
· Roast it until the dal turns golden brown.
· Now, add ginger, beetroot and salt. Cook for 2 minutes.
· Add water into the pan and let the mixture cook for about 10 minutes by covering the lid.
· Turn off the flame and let it cool down.
· Transfer the beetroot mixture into a blender and add grated coconut, tamarind, salt and a dash of water.
· Blend everything into a smooth paste.
· Keep the chutney aside in a bowl.
· For tempering, heat oil, add mustard seeds, urad dal, curry leaves and dry red chilli.
· Let it splutter.
· Pour the tempering over the chutney and mix it properly.
· Beetroot Chutney for Dosa is fresh and ready.

 

Serving Suggestion

Serve this divine chutney with your South Indian delicacies, Indian bread or as a dip.
